Outdoor Play and Learning

Nurture has carefully developed our large outdoor creative space to give children endless opportunities to fully explore their natural surroundings. Such a landscape provides varied learning opportunities so that every child’s individuality is promoted.

Children are provided with safe and wide boundaries outdoors where they are physically active and learn to take risks, which brings huge benefits for their confidence, self-esteem and fitness levels.

Forest School

At Nurture we believe that children need the freedom in play to challenge themselves and learn about risk. It is a vital life skill for children to develop an awareness of their own limits and boundaries, giving them a real sense of self, which enables them to make informed and safe decisions during their independent play.

If you think back to how you used to play outdoors as a child, many of us have fond memories of playing in the woods, building dens, climbing trees, hunting for worms and creating bottles of ‘perfume’ using whatever blooms we could find in the garden. It is through these rich experiences in nature that children learn to take risks, overcome challenges, build resilience, confidence, independence and test their creativity.

The Weather

Let children feel the rain, the ice, the wind, the snow and the sun. We see the weather as enhancing the learning experiences for our children. A change in the weather provides a whole new perspective on the environment and different possibilities for a child to consider.

Our children are outdoors, every day no matter what the weather, to maximise children’s contact with the British seasons and the natural world around them.
